One of Lainie's little doors is exactly what I was hoping to view! You are such a specialist in these kind of magical finds ! And having found them, you portray them as such beautiful works of art. I have so many favourites of yours but this must be another one of them! The twisting vine, mellow ochre bricks, beautiful carvings, fading woodwork and glorious greens are such a very lovely combination! L/F

Artist's Description

The Abbaye de la Celle-Roubaud and Chapelle Sainte Roseline were founded in the 11th century by the monk Roubaud, a hermit of St Victor of Marseille. The abbey and chapel belonged, successively, to the Templiers, Benedictines, Chartreuses and Observentins.

During the Revolution, property was sold, and the chapel was acquired by the commune of Les Arcs. The abbey became the Château de Sainte Roseline and today the chateau and chapel are the center pieces of a large vineyard. The old monastery buildings are now private property. However at the end of the abbey building is the vineyard wine shop that can be visited, for tasting and buying.

The chapel which is open to the public, was built in 1200, in the style of Provencal Romanesque. The site was left in disrepair during times of troubles and agitation in the 14th century. In the 15th century, the Franciscans moved in and rebuilt the monastery. A lovely cloister can be seen through the gate to the right of the chapel. <...
